A Diwali gift that doesn't sit in a cupboard

A Diwali gift that doesn't sit in a cupboard

September 22, 2026

Diwali 2026 · 8 November · Order by 25 October
From a farming family in Upper Shimla & Kinnaur

Every household knows the feeling. Six boxes of sweets on the table by the second day, and not one of them opened.

Diwali gifting has a quiet problem. The gifts are generous and well meant — and a great many of them are quietly passed on, or left until they go stale. Sweets arrive in quantities nobody can finish. Dry-fruit boxes get re-gifted without ever being opened.

Fresh fruit is one of the few things that reliably gets eaten.

Why fruit works as a Diwali gift

  • It gets used. A box of apples disappears in a week. Nobody re-gifts fruit.
  • It suits everyone. Diabetic relatives, health-conscious colleagues, elderly parents, small children — fruit works where a box of mithai doesn't.
  • It crosses every line. No dietary restriction, no religious consideration, no guessing at preferences.
  • It isn't the obvious choice. Which is precisely why it's remembered.

Nobody has ever re-gifted a box of apples.

Diwali lands in the last week of our harvest

This is the part that makes the timing unusually good, and it is worth understanding because it is the difference between fruit that tastes like something and fruit that doesn't.

Our highest orchards sit between 9,000 and 12,000 feet, in Kinnaur and Upper Shimla. Those are the last to ripen every year, and they are picked through the second half of October. Up there the nights have already started to freeze. The tree makes sugar through the warm day and stops burning it off at night, so the sugar stays in the fruit — which is why apples from the top of the mountain taste nothing like the same variety picked lower down in August.

Diwali on 8 November falls a week or two after those orchards are cleared. So a Diwali box does not need to come out of a cold store. It can be picked, packed and sent.

What's actually in the box

Red & gold

Two varieties, laid out in stripes

Red Royal Delicious and Golden, alternating, so the colour is the first thing anyone sees when the lid comes off. A box of twenty identical red apples looks like fruit somebody bought. Two colours looks like a gift somebody chose.

Presentation

Sleeved, tissued, banded and sealed

Every apple in its own cup in a gold foam sleeve, under a sheet of tissue, in a box closed with a printed band and a seal. It has to be opened rather than unpacked.

Your words

A card you write

Tell us what to say at checkout and we print it on a Diwali card, addressed to them and signed by you. It sits on top of the tissue, so it is the first thing they touch.

The price never goes in the box

No invoice, no amount, nothing showing what you paid goes inside or outside the parcel. It is a small thing and almost nobody gets it right — and it is the first thing people worry about when they send a gift to a client, a boss or an in-law.

The dates you actually need

When What happens
Now – 25 October Order and write your gift message. Boxes are limited, because we can only pick so much in the closing week of the season.
By 25 October Last date to order. After this we cannot pick, pack and reach you in time.
Last week of October We pick, pack and dispatch. You get a message when the box leaves the hills.
30 October – 3 November Boxes arrive — comfortably before Diwali on 8 November.

Why we finish five days early

Courier networks run slow and heavy through the festival fortnight. Aiming for delivery on the 8th means a two-day delay ruins the gift. Aiming for the 1st means a two-day delay is invisible. We would rather build in the buffer than explain a late box.

Sending it to someone else

Most Diwali orders go to an address that isn't the buyer's. Put the recipient's address in as the delivery address and write your message in the gift message field — that is all it takes.

If you are sending to several people, place a separate order for each address so each box carries its own message. Or send us the list on WhatsApp and we will set it up for you.

For offices

Corporate Diwali gifting has shifted noticeably. A lot of companies have moved away from sweets — partly for health, partly because a mithai box is the same gift every employee has already received from four other people.

Fruit works across an entire office without anyone having to check dietary requirements. For bulk orders, message us directly and we will work out quantities, addresses and timing with you — including individual messages per box if you want them.

What you're actually sending

We are a farming family in Pujarli, Upper Shimla. We do not hold stock in cold storage. Fruit is picked after it is ordered and dispatched within a day.

So the box that arrives isn't warehouse fruit in festival packaging. It is fruit that was on a tree the same week it reached someone's door — which is a rarer thing to receive at Diwali than another box of laddoos.

Picked in October, opened at Diwali

Red Royal and Golden in one box, from the last and highest orchards of our 2026 season. Your message inside, never the price. Order by 25 October.

Common questions

What is a good fruit gift for Diwali?

Something picked recently rather than held in storage. Late October is the tail of the Himachal apple harvest, so Red Royal and Golden are coming off the highest orchards in exactly the week Diwali boxes need packing.

When should I order for Diwali 2026?

By 25 October. Diwali is on 8 November, boxes are picked in the last week of October and delivered between the 30th and the 3rd, which leaves room if a courier runs late.

Can you deliver to someone else's address?

Yes. Enter their address as the delivery address and write your message in the gift message box. We print it on a card inside, addressed to them and signed by you.

Will they see the price?

No. No invoice, no amount, nothing showing what you paid goes in or on the box.

Do you take corporate orders?

Yes. Send us the number of boxes and the addresses on WhatsApp and we handle the list, the individual messages and the dispatch.

How long will the apples keep?

Three to four weeks in the crisper drawer, about a week at room temperature. They were on the tree days before they arrived, so they last far longer than fruit that has already spent months in storage.

Written at our orchards in Pujarli, Upper Shimla and in Kinnaur, Himachal Pradesh. We grow apples, pears, persimmon and pomegranate and send them out picked to order — no wax, no cold storage. Orchards Box
