⛰️ Shimla, Himachal Pradesh

I left these hills because farming couldn't feed us. I came back to change that.

This is not a company story. This is the story of a farmer's son — and a promise that is still being kept, one box at a time.

The Journey

Five Moments That Made Us

From a childhood in the orchards, to a mandi that broke our heart, to the box that reaches your door today.

I Grew Up Under These Trees

Before I knew what business meant, I knew apples. Carrying crates with my family. Learning which apple is ready just by looking at it. Waking up early in harvest season because every hand at home was needed.

The orchard gave us everything — except one thing. Enough.

"We worked the whole year. And every year, the same question at home: will it be enough this time?"

Leaving Home

The Day I Left the Hills

Like thousands of farmers' sons, I had to make a choice no one should have to make: stay with the orchards I loved, or earn enough to live.

I chose the city. Found work. Built a digital marketing business from nothing. But I never unpacked one thing — the thought that someday, I would do something for the orchards back home.

"The city gave me skills. But every harvest season, my heart was in Shimla."

The Day at the Mandi That Broke My Heart

When COVID hit, I came back home to help my family sell the harvest. We loaded our apples and took them to the mandi — and I saw, as an adult, what I never fully understood as a child.
We don't decide the price of our own apples. The commission agents do. Our whole year of work, priced in seconds by someone who never touched a tree.

And the number? Almost the same as it was 10 years ago. Diesel doubled. Labour doubled. Sprays, cartons, everything doubled.
Only the farmer's price stood still.

"I stood there with my family's harvest, and a stranger told us what our year was worth. That day, something in me refused to accept it."

The Decision

What If the Farmer Could
Skip the Mandi?

That's when it clicked. I had spent years learning digital marketing in the city —the exact skill needed to connect our orchards directly to your home.

No mandi. No commission agents. No cold storage. Just: you order, we pick, we ship — and the money comes back to the hills.

Orchards Box was born. The first boxes went out, and then came the messages: "Freshest apples I've ever had." "It tastes like my childhood." People weren't just buying fruit. They were tasting what the system had taken away from them.

"The city taught me how to sell. The hills taught me what's worth selling honestly."

Today · The Mission Continues

The Mission Is Not Complete

Today, Orchards Box delivers to families across India. But I won't pretend we've won.

Every season, thousands of farmers in these hills still stand in that same mandi, hearing a stranger price their year of work. I sit with these farmers. I drink tea in their homes. I know their children's names. Their fight is my family's fight.

Every box you order does something bigger than buying fruit: a farmer earns a fair price, a family stays together in the hills, and one more son doesn't have to leave home the way I did. That's the change we're building — one box at a time.

"I left these hills once because farming couldn't feed us. I'm not stopping until that is no longer true — for any farmer here."

The Man Behind the Promise

Amit Palsra

Founder, Orchards Box

Amit grew up helping his family in the apple orchards of Shimla. Farming income was too little — so like thousands of farmers' sons, he left for the city and built a digital marketing business from scratch.

COVID brought him home to help sell the family harvest. At the mandi, he watched commission agents price his family's year of work — at nearly the same rate as a decade ago.

Orchards Box is his answer: his city skills, in service of his hills. The farmer earns fairly, and you eat fresh.

"Somewhere in Kinnaur, a farmer picked your apples at sunrise, hoping your family smiles when the box opens. My only job is to not break that promise between his hands and your home."

Farmers

Our Farmers Are Our Family

We Don't Buy From Farmers. We Stand With Them.

These aren't suppliers to us. They're neighbours, uncles, childhood friends — people who taught Amit which apple is ready just by its colour. We sit in their kitchens. We celebrate their harvests. We share their worries when hail comes.

Our promise to them is simple: a fair price, decided together — never by a stranger in a mandi. And our promise to you: every rupee you spend reaches these hands.

When farming pays fairly, something bigger happens —children stay in school, families stay together, and the hills stay alive. That's the society we're quietly building, box by box.

I used to ask relatives from Shimla to bring apples for me. Now I can order anytime. Honestly, it felt like a blessing — the apples were so fresh.

The mission is not complete. You can be part of it.

One box = a fair price for a farmer, a fresher apple for your family, and one more reason for a farmer's child to stay in the hills. That's not charity. That's just a fairer way to eat.
